Wheelie Wednesday - Home alone!

"Hi it's me Judy!
Can you see that sad, worried look on my little face face?
I was hoping to sneak into Mummy's suitcase & go away with her for New Year.
Am sure Molly & Taffy wouldn't have minded!
But - big pout - she said I'd to keep you know who, company & make sure he didn't get up to no good - some hope.
As soon as he heard Mummy leave, he declared he was bored & the only balls he can see to play with are ones the Christmas tree.
I'm feared he's going to go into attack mode any minute, as he's keeps eyeing the baubles - look @ him...
And, what's worse Bailey & big boy Skipper, have been conspiring together...
They think that while Mummy's away the Stuffies & Wheelies should play or rather Pawty!
Baileys discovered the Port & plans to mix Paw-martini's for tonight.
Now, they're both so much bigger than me & I'm sure Baileys got hollow wheels too, so I think I could be in serious trouble.
Still, if you can't beat them it's best to join them.
But, before I round up the Bear Hug & get into party mode - it's a good job I've got some crackers left to pull - I'd would like to wish everyone a very HAPPY NEW YEAR, we both do...
See you all in 2009!
Foxy love & wirey wishes

Two fer Tuesday - My 'Niece' & 'Nephew'!

I had a smooth uneventful journey North yesterday; was greeted warmly by my friends, both two & four legged.
The day flew by, chatting, exchanging Christmas pressies, playing with Molly & Taffy's new squeaky toys, and eating & drinking, in the soft fairy lights of a beautifully decorated real pine tree.
Then, this morning I made a discover!
Opps!
Can't believe it, but I've forgotten to bring a vital piece of equipment away with me - the cable that enables me to download the photo's taken yesterday onto my laptop!
So, no new festive shots of my 'Niece' & 'Nephew', for Jonna's meme - just two from my Autumn visit.
Miss Molly looking very girly...
And, the Taffster, modelling his then new, Walkies F.C. [Football Club] Winter scarf...
He'll need it to day when we all head out, as it's a wee bit on the chilly side by our standards!

Monochrome & Odd Shot Monday - Seasonal Windows!

Christmas window displays always attract my attention.
This year, due to the Flu, I didn't make it up to London's Oxford Street to admire.
It's the one time I like to head to the big City to window shop, despite the hated jostling crowds.
These shots are therefore, from last year.
A 60's Retro display from Selfrigdes, adapts well to Aileni's Monochrome Maniacs...And, the Robins & Reflections including my cameras, makes a seasonal Odd Shot in my eyes for Katney's meme..I'm sorry, but, I won't even be making my usual poor effort @ visiting today as I'm heading off shortly to catch a train.
My 'Niece & Nephew' Molly & Taffy, have invited me to join them & their 'hoomans' for a few days in Derbyshire.
How could I refuse?

Camera Critters Sunday - A Turkey or two or three!

Dreamingspires Covered Market on Christmas Eve is a fascinating place.
I always like to take a look around, and this year was no exception.
But, the scenes not one for vegetarians or the squeamish, as the butchers are busy, busy!
Just wished one plump bird had, had my name on it...This one would have suited me fine...Last year though, I did do the business...Camera Critters blog is HERE.
It's hosted by Misty Dawn.

PS - Turkeys are wily birds, not all will have ended up roasted for Christmas...

Crazy Shopping!

Boxing Day, yesterday apparently broke all known 'Sale' records in the UK & only half the stores were open!
What happened to the Recession & watching ones pennies?
Today, I did venture into town to view the apparent action.
Yep, it's a buying frenzy, the Clarendon Shopping Mall's as busy as I've seen it in ages...And, I too joined in, with Christmas money from Little Buddy burning a whole in my pocket!
My BIG purchase was from M&S; this snuggly warm cardigan @ 50% off - looked boring to photo, so have added the lovely blue scarf, my cousin Headmistress sent me for Christmas...What else did I buy?
Not a lot - I don't need much; so, when's a bargain a bargin, if you really don't need it???
I bought luxury Florentine Biscuits for friends; a 'Gold' pillar candle - I'm big into candles; and rashly, something I may NOT get to see, despite how much I want to - a ticket for...Last year I was mesmerised by 'Beauty & the Beast' on Ice - I long to go again, hence the ticket.
But, it's a rebelious act, because I may have to be else where!

Saturday Photo Hunters - Squeaky!

This weeks subject from host tnchick, nearly made me admit defeat.
I'm not 'squeaky clean', as in a good person.
Babies & Squeaky toys are deffinately not my scene!
Then, thinking about my up & coming break away, I remembered my 'nephew' Taffy!
Wubba's are squeaky...

Birthday Greetings to J1!

I've been very fortunate in the friends I've made via blogging.
When I first went to meet in dog-person my very favourite WFT Jackson, he introduced me to his devoted human J1, who immediately became a real rather than 'virtual' friend.
Today's her special day, which I know won't be over shadowed by Christmas.
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday J1!

I know she loves RED, & Green & quirky, so I hope she'll like this image as much as I do
It's called 'Tulips in Red ' - the prints artist is someone called Sangita, no other info is available!

Sky Watch Friday - Christmas Baubles!

The commercial heart of Dreamingspires has new decorations this year.
Gone are the intricate snowflake stars, instead we have these...
Having yet, to see them illuminated, the verdict is still out on which I prefer.
Skywatch is hosted HERE!

My Christmas - Present & a Past One!

After days & I do mean, days of oppressive leaden grey skies; for a brief hour or so this morning the clouds dispersed & there was bright Winter sunshine.
I quickly seized the opportunity for a brief Christmas morning walk, reminiscent of the ones I use to take with Hero.
Everywhere was very quiet.
All, my neighbours are away.
I'm surrounded by seven, dark empty houses.
Even my stroll, brought me in contact with only one solitary male, hurrying along with his bag of gifts.
But, @ least we exchanged seasonal greetings - on any other day, he'd have walked on by, with out giving me so much as a second glance!
Here he is heading along the lake walkway towards my park...
I've returned home, by which time, the skies are once again overcast.
So, I've opened my festive bubbly, squeezed my satsumas & had my own little toast...
Today, like most days, I'm on my own.
I strangely like it that way, because there's no lonelier place on earth @ this time of year, than being with a group of people who you don't belong with.
Unlike last Christmas when to make a point, I did the whole Turkey & trimmings thing - I'd turned invitations down & was accused of wanting to be miserable; this year, I'm keeping it simple.
Shortly, I'm going to roast a small joint of 'well hung' beef till it's just succulently pink; do lots of roast root veggies, Brussels & baby Carrots, get out the Horseradish sauce and feast till I'm full.

I'm going to leave you with a email I wrote a couple of years ago to my Canadian family, about a Christmas visit.
It's long, but all who have read it said it was worth the time!
"Hi there, Headmistress & Sir!
Yes, I'm back from my Christmas Festivities - not, that, that is really an apt word!
If you're both sitting comfortably I'll begin with my tale.................
To me Christmas is, Christmas trees festooned with lights & decorations, with parcels underneath & sharing the pleasure of opening them.
Christmas flowers, especially red poinsettias, [the only kind you see in the UK], a Christmas wreath on the door, festive decorations around, Christmas cards up, Christmas music playing, special Chocolates even though we all know what happens when I indulge too much!!!
Lots of lovely special food, plus the traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies, trifle and then there's the wine, liqueurs & bubbly ect, etc.
Okay - It's a time for indulgence!
Christmas should be filled with shared laughter, good company & quiet happy moments.
All this & more, you did so well last year. [2005]
Just for me, alone I've decorated my house & treated myself to a few extra's.
And Mother & I always managed to eat, drink & be merry when there was just the two of us, so I was totally unprepared for the bleak, sober Christmas awaiting me @ Wheatley this year [ 2006]
Now having set the scene I'll begin.
I drove over mid afternoon on Xmas Eve.
Skyebird had finally put up her tree, but only half of it!!!!
I should have read that as a SIGN.
There were a few parcels dumped in a corner like a sack of potatoes & their Christmas cards were lying in a heap on a table like a pile of discarded bills.
No other signs of Christmas were visible.
I presented my hosts with a box of Foreer Rocher choc's & a couple of bottles of good red wine & one of sparkling white wine, to be greeted with...
''I haven't bought any chocolates, some always turn up. And we're not drinking "
I jokingly responded '' the more the merrier for At Joan & me'' - they were not amused!
Now, Skyebird when cooking can't cope with any distractions & WONT accept any help, so my presence in the kitchen trying to talk to her is always fraught.
Sometimes, I just can't resist doing it for a human response!
At Joan [my late Mother's old school friend - hence my Christmas presence] produced a bottle of Sherry, I went to get out the small wine glasses I use when it's just the two of us, to be quickly reigned in, to 'thumbnail' sized ones.
Refills weren't offered but I did sneak one!
At this point, Skyebird announced, instead of the usual practice of having meals on trays on our laps, we'd lay the dinning table, as she was getting out her 'special' table-mats & Christmas clothe.
The excitment was tangible!
She then added, I wasn't to worry about making marks as she'd bleach it afterwards!
All this consisted of was a plain white clothe & Cats mats, nothing festive - there was no table decorations, no Christmas crackers or napkins, let alone fancy ones.
The small wine glasses I wanted to use earlier for Sherry, were finally allowed out, instead of the wine goblets I'd have used!
The meal, a luxury Fish Pie, was very tasty.
But, you & I would have have thrown it together whilst talking & laughing together companionably.
And, we'd have prepared more than 3 florets of broccoli each, to accompany it!
A little red wine flowed.
At Joan's second glass was frowned upon.
I guzzled & ignored the glouring looks!
My hostess in due course, said she'd made mince pies & they were warming for desert.
A plate with just 4 bit-sized pies was duly presented.
Tea followed & 6 hours of TV.
I retired early with a stress headache!!!

Christmas Day...
Not sleeping well due to an over heated bedroom & solid foam pillows, heard someone down stairs early Christmas morning.
I presumed it would be At Joan letting the families 2 cats out, only to be confronted with Skyebird.
No 'Merry Christmas' greeting, just 'What are you doing up @ this hour?'
I quickly, retreated back to my bedroom sanctuary .
Some time later I ventured down again, to find this time, At Joan there & she greeted me affectionately.
Mine hosts eventually surfaced & we all had cereal for breakfast.
It was then announced Christmas dinner would be at Noon precisely!
If I had anything to do, I was told to make sure I was back in time!
I've never had Christmas that early in my life before...
I offered to help but it was rebuffed as usual.
So, At Joan & I drove home for me to fulfil my cat minding duties.
When we returned to Wheatley, we found At Joan's dearly beloved son & daughter-in-law had thoughtlessly in my eyes, open all their presents in our absence!
I sat with At Joan while she unwrapped hers, while her son was allowed to prepare the Brussels Sprouts, counting out exactly, 6 each.
At precisely Noon, Christmas lunch was served, the table was made festive by the addition of a cracker each & I was reminded not to worry about red wine stains on the table clothe.
There was no Turkey, just a small Chicken, no Stuffing, no Trimmings, 2 Roast Potatoes each, 1 of Roast Parsnip, the previously mentioned no. of Brussels, plus the small helping of Carrots & Peas.
I did retrieve an old opened jar of Cranberry Sauce from the fridge.
Pre-lunch Sherries & dinner wine followed the same routine as Xmas Eve.
Desert was an individual portion of Caramel Mouse.
It was all over in 30 mins.
10 hours of TV followed.
I did suggest a walk, only to find it was bucketing down with rain.
The most excitement & rewarding event - watching from my bedroom, wild Badgers feeding in the garden in the moonlight on Christmas Day night.
On Boxing Day I made a hasty retreat.
Thank-Heavens, Little Buddy flew into LHR that evening!
Missed you all terribly.
Love,
Headgirl [ Blue]"

True Colours Thursday - GREEN!

It's a GREEN Christmas Day here in Dreamingspires .
The last truly white one that I recall is many years back, but I would have settled for a little of this on the GREENERY outside in my garden this morning...
Instead, it's bare...
Still, I hope everyone's stocking has been filled...
And, that the best dinner service waiting in the wings...
I didn't find my choice of colour for Christmas that easy.
And, I'm unsure who else will have the time to play today, but PREVIOUS participants have been:
I wish you all a Merry Christmas!
The colour for next week, ie New Years Day is GOLD

Wheelie Wednesday - Bailey on final preparations!

"Hallo Everyone, Bailey here!
And, me Judy!
Grr - She's never lets up - not satified with steeling my thunder @ the weekend, she wants in today too.
But, while her & Mistress were doing something called 'Quality' control on the mince pies & Port earlier, I was busy counting parcels...
And, checking that our all important Christmas stockings were up under the tree for Santa...
Then, her 'tipsy' ladyship, wanted to practice pulling her Xmas craker pulling skills for tommorow - not that she's got any offers yet...
Still, she says she's ready now to take on all callers...
Till next time, hope Santa Paws comes & makes you all paw happy.
Bye-de-Bye
x
Hey! Don't forget me!
Wirey Christmas Wishes everyone.

Christmas Eve Greetings!

Here's wishing all my friends, old & new, a very, very MERRY CHRISTMAS.
May you have a wonderful holiday time, filled with laughter, love, good food & great wine.
Unlike most of you, who I'm sure, will be too busy to blog, I'll be continuing on for my own amusement.
So, if anyones up for pulling a 'virtual' cracker over the next few days let me know.
Christmas Greetings to you all!
Love [and pats & pets]

ABC Wednesday - V & W is for...!

Last week the Flu lurgy prevented me posting, so I've two letters of the alphabet to cover!

My V is for Virgina!
Not Virgina, the American State but Virgina the Creeper, which adores many buildings in Dreamingspires including Christ Church College...
And, ugly modern student accommodations benefit from it's Crimson Autumn coat...
But, unfortunately, the impressive, ancient growth that I photo'd in the Summer is sadly no more, due to the installation of new windows...
Now, W was to have been Wassailing & Windows.
However, I've been too under the weather to do any of the first & the only new Winter Window, I'd got around to taking was this one - if you look carefully, the snowflakes are made up of hair brushes, umbrellas & watches...
For my doggy, I'm combining both alphetbet letters in one subject, as they equal one & the same thing!
V is for Vulnerable native breed & W is for Welsh Terrier.
Being a member of WELTAF [ Welsh Terrier & Friends] I've seen a fair number of these wily Welshies.
But, I'm choosing Guinness photo's, because this vivacious girl is very vocal, the injury sustained @ birth to her voicebox having left her with a wonderful wuff wuff...
ABC is Denise's well thought out idea.

Two fer Tuesday - A Concert missed!

At the very best of times, I can't sing.
I've a dead pan voice, am tone deaf & have NO sense of rhythm; consequently, I don't sing in company & generally mime in public.
Yet, every December I go along to the Lord Mayors Annual Carol Concert & give voice to all my favourites - "In the Bleak Midwinter", "The Holly & the Ivy" & "The Twelve Days of Christmas" etc!
I'd bought my ticket weeks ago but sadly, this Sunday afternoon, there was no way I could attend, what with my repeated violent coughing bouts & impaired sense of balance.
Held in the upper gallery of Dreamingspires Town Hall, the atmosphere @ this family concert is always excellent...The Central Music Schools Sinfonia is usually the orchestra, the Spireshire's counties Young Singers one of the choirs & other local groups including gospel participate...
And, a fun custom, decrees that the incumbent Lord Mayor sings solo, the carol "Good King Wenceslas", with their spouse taking on the role of the page.
As this year the mayor is a lady, I'm sorry, to have missed this interesting role reversal.
The pair of images for Jonna's meme were taken last year.

Today's Flowers - Poinsetta!

I prepared this post last week, when I wrote about the Christmas Rose!

Now adays the flower, perhaps most assosiated with Christmas is the Poinsettia.Originally from Mexico, it seems it was introduced to the States by a Joel Roberts Poinsett around 1828.
Since then, it's gone from strengh to commercial strengh to more commercial strengh.
But, the flower its-self, has a nice but long legend!
"Pepita, a poor Mexican girl had no gift to present the Christ Child at Christmas Eve Services.
As Pepita walked slowly to the chapel with her cousin Pedro, her heart was filled with sadness rather than joy."I am sure, Pepita, that even the most humble gift, if given in love, will be acceptable in His eyes," said Pedro consolingly.
Not knowing what else to do, Pepita knelt by the roadside & gathered a handful of common weeds, fashioning them into a small bouquet.
Looking at the scraggly bunch of weeds, she felt more saddened & embarrassed than ever by the humbleness of her offering.
She fought back a tear as she entered the small village chapel.
As she approached the alter, she remembered Pedro's kind words: "Even the most humble gift, if given in love, will be acceptable in His eyes."
She felt her spirit lift as she knelt to lay the bouquet at the foot of the nativity scene.
Suddenly, the bouquet of weeds burst into blooms of brilliant red, and all who saw them were certain that they had witnessed a Christmas miracle right before their eyes.
From that day on, the bright red flowers were known as the Flores de Noche Buena, or Flowers of the Holy Night, for they bloomed each year during the Christmas season.
Today, the common name for this plant is the Poinsettia!"

Here in the UK, they are still mainly scarlet.
But, recall when spending Christmas in Canada in 2005, the wealth of variety there - White, every shade of Pink & Red plus the fancy speckled ones.
Yet, I still prefer the original colouration - it's more traditional.
Today's Flowers other seaonal blooms may be found via the blog HERE!

Monochrome & Odd Shot Monday - Balancing Act!

The street artists are always out @ the weekends to entertain the shopppers in Dreamingspires.
This guy on a bleak day, balancing & fiddling for his funds outside the HSBC Bank struck me as rather ironic in these tough financial times...Aileni is the Monochrome Maniac's mentor, the dedicated site is HERE!
While Odd Shots home & host is Katney.

This morning, I particularly admire the skill of the above artist, as a strange side effect of the Flu and one, I've never experienced before, is that my own balance is severely impaired @ the moment.
It's as though I'm drunk - constantly, lighted headed & disorientated, my co-ordination is shot.
I couldn't walk in a straight line on a pavement to save my life, let alone balance on a rope.
It's a most peculiar feeling and yesterday & right now it's bad.
I need to go out for basics, but am so wobbly, I hesitate to do so.

Camera Critters Sunday - Dreaming of Santa Paws!

I never had Reindeer antlers or a Santa hat for Hero.
But, come Christmas time, he did wear a tinsel collar & have a festive basket...
Camera Critters host is Misty Dawn & the site is HERE!

Wheelie Weekend - Tree Decorating!

"Hi, it's me Judy!
Guess you didn't expect to see me today?
Shh!
We must be very quiet, as Bailey doesn't know I'm posting right now.
It was his turn on Wednesday, only what with Mummy having the flu he didn't get too.
And, now, he's sniffling & barking & complaining that he's caught the DOG flu.
Apparently, it's like something called MAN flu & far more serious than anything I might catch!
Still, why he out of action, I can tell you about what we all did last weekend.
Mummy fetched out her Christmas Tree, I wasn't impressed...
Then, she showed us her basket packed with decorations, Bailey soon had his nose in it...
And, look who I found hiding in there too...
We worked ever so hard!
Bailey hung up Maggie & Mitch's Teddy Santa...
Mummy, who'd just rec'd this lovely heart from her dear friend BJ, found a special place for that too...
While, cause I'm a careful pup, I got to help with the trees two most precious baubles.
This whopper was bought on a Christmas expedition to London when Mummy was about eleven...
And, the little Crib globe is even older...
Here's our finished effort - didn't we do well...
Better go before you know who, catches me blogging.
I've sworn all the bears to secrecy - even, the ones on the tree, so don't tell on me.
See you on Christmas Eve!
Foxy love & 'Wheelie' wishes,
xxx"
